Job Description

This is an exciting new role, being part of a “First Tier” ranked team (Chambers & Partners) with a Partner recognised as a leading individual in his field. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to deal with claims of the uppermost high value and complexity for clients (who will often lack capacity) requiring extensive and specialist rehabilitative regimes. They will increase their experience of pulling together large teams of medical and other experts and will get the opportunity to work closely with some of the Country's top Leading Counsel.


Partnership Contribution
Plays a contributory role in the firm's achievement of profitability objectives and identify growth areas. Builds knowledge of all of the firm's areas of expertise, building strong networks within the Partnership group, and with Associates across the firm.

Plays a key role in self improvement and the development of fellow Solicitors, Associates and Partners where appropriate, through constructive feedback and challenging behaviours.

Markets the firm, identifying and attending events regularly. Working towards being known well in the local market and area of legal expertise. Builds a professional referrer network. Contributes to marketing materials, tenders and firm press releases. Presents seminars where appropriate.

Able to actively input into the development of an effective strategy for the work area of specialism, that aligns with the overall firm strategy. Plays a positive role in change, is supportive of this process even where it goes against the individuals preferences - focusing on the overall firm achievement.

Provides a proactive and constructive input into the team and the firm's strategy.

Leadership / Management
Respects the operational Management structure of the firm. Willing to develop skills that will mean important roles can be taken on, where identified, to support the success of the firm.

Supports the Partner with gaining an understanding of the capabilities within the team. Uses a commercial mindset to help produce the optimum success for the team through profitability. This is achieved through working closely with the team and Partner(s) to identify not only technical skills but other attributes such as business development, client service, leadership or management skills which can be allocated at the best possible level to achieve the profitability sought.

Client/Supervising Partner Services

Play a substantial role in assisting the Partner with developing and maintaining the firm's relationship with key identified Clients and referrers. Effectively manage the Client expectations in terms of regulatory requirements (such as money laundering procedures), and bill payments or credit options.

Under the guidance of a Partner, provides and ensures others provide a first class service to Clients, including the supervision of client files and ensuring measures are in place to provide the supervised partner service during any duration of absence.

Provide expert and bespoke advice to clients in accordance with technical area of specialism; liaising with clients, colleagues/Client Partner (where appropriate) and any relevant professionals in accordance with the Thrings behaviours and values.

Focuses on profitable work, confident and tactful in responding to low value instructions managing Client expectations, delegating or referring this work elsewhere.

Plays an active and cooperative role in reaching a quick and effective resolution to any complaints received.

A team player, building strong working relationships with the core team, the wider sector group, across the firm and the Partnership. Plays an active role in the full client service including cross-team referral of work.

Has a supervisory role towards all junior employees of the firm, delivering reward messaged or feeding back performance concerns, challenges/praises behaviours where appropriate.

Works collaboratively with fellow Associates, and with Partners within the team.

Understands and cooperates with internal firm procedures. Comply with policies and practices including Risk, money laundering, the Firm's office manual and regulatory requirements external to Thrings such as the SRA Code of Practice.

Take responsibility for understanding these requirements, and promote the importance of these responsibilities to colleagues.

Prioritises team achievements over personal targets, supporting Partners with the responsibility for ensuring there is enough work for everyone.

Where appropriate, able to set own and team targets, and ensures team members understand and achieve their targets such as chargeable hours and time recording, ensuring accurate records are maintained for both chargeable and non chargeable time.

Ensures team billing and fee estimate tasks are completed effectively and on time. Work proactively with the firm's credit control team in relation to client payments, having a good understanding of write off and recovery rate requirements.

Business Development
Identify and secure opportunities for work from existing clients of the firm in conjunction with colleagues.

Work closely with supervising Partner with all aspects of business development strategy and delivery. Plan and engage in targeted business development activities to obtain new clients and referrers for own practice area and sector, and for other areas within Thrings. Build network of client referrers, understand the market place both locally and regionally. Build a strong understanding of the other business areas and people within the firm for effective internal referrals.

Understanding and Learning
Take responsibility for achieving all forms of continuous professional development. Meets the SRA (or other relevant regulatory body) requirements, and ensure continued personal growth in the technical area of expertise to meet the teams strategic objectives. Take responsibility for the growth of others, sharing knowledge and accepting and giving feedback constructively.

Qualification Qualified Solicitor

Experience and Knowledge
At least 2 years experience within Personal Injury including;
Putting together teams of medical and non medical experts in cases of significant quantum;
Implementing rehabilitative support packages for clients and family;
Work closely with Leading Counsel on all aspects of liability and quantum;
Drafting detailed and complex witness statements on liability and quantum, bespoke letters of instruction to experts and instruction to Counsel on complex medical matters, schedule of loss in high value cases and demonstrable experience and competence in application of Ogden tables and other actuarial tools;
Being a strong ambassador for the team and firm within both the local community and beyond;
Attendance of events and meetings in order to build a strong network of clients and referrers;
Interpersonal skills and ability to mix with and develop a rapport with a wide range of personalities and people from different backgrounds;
Developing creative ways to get the team's work noticed publicly;

Knowledge or a strong understanding of:
Rehab Code
Personal injury protocol
Knowledge of the Court of Protection (advantageous)
Knowledge of brain injury (advantageous)
